Judi’s House/JAG Institute was founded on the belief that all bereaved children and families should have access to effective and compassionate care. Experiencing a significant death loss during childhood often results in profound stress and adversity, and without appropriate support, can derail a child’s development. For youth who are bereaved, access to comprehensive, grief-focused, trauma-informed care and resources is essential.
According to our Childhood Bereavement Estimation Model®, developed in partnership with the New York Life Foundation, 1 in 15 Colorado children will experience the death of a parent or sibling by age 18 – more than 84,000 youth. Since opening our doors in 2002, we have served more than 12,000 children and caregivers through research-based grief care. We invest in the lives of young people by helping them build coping skills and resilience necessary to adjust to their loss and handle future challenges. All services and programs are provided at no cost to families. We rely entirely on private donations and our community of dedicated volunteers to fulfill our mission. By investing in preventive care, research, education and awareness, we are working to create social change that ensures a compassionate response to grieving children and promotes healthy development.
We are excited to announce that in Fall 2022, we will be moving our operations to a new purpose-built home at the crossroads of Denver and Aurora. Join us in building a home where lives are transformed through community and compassion. Together, we will work toward our vision that no child should be alone in grief.
