Habitat for Humanity of Metro Denver has been building and preserving affordable homeownership since 1979. Habitat partners with local individuals and families to create first-time homeownership opportunities in a market that far too many residents are priced out of.
The growing need for affordable homeownership in Denver is staggering. The metro area is experiencing a historic supply and demand problem that is causing home prices to skyrocket. Essential members of our workforce—like teachers, first responders, and nurses—are now struggling to afford to live in the city that they’ve long been able to call home. That’s where Habitat comes in. Habitat partners with hardworking families to give them a chance to become first-time homebuyers.
Safe, stable and affordable housing has never been more important. The homeowners Habitat partners with know this better than anyone… from holding down full-time jobs and helping children with remote learning, to trying to put healthy meals on the table, they work hard to keep everything afloat.
Homeownership creates life-changing impacts on families and communities, including providing a source of wealth and asset-building, influencing health and educational outcomes, and contributing to positive community development.
Habitat knows that owning a stable home has a transformational effect that impacts success in school, financial stability, health and quality of life. Research shows that children who grow up in a Habitat Denver home have a 95% high school graduation rate! That’s 13 percentage points higher than Colorado’s average.
“I can honestly say that because Habitat provided stability – it helped me secure a future,” shares Naiely, who moved into her Habitat home as a teenager. “In the first year of living in our new home, my GPA went from a 1.6 to a 3.7.”
