Food For Thought

In 2012, longtime Denver resident Bob Bell founded Food for Thought Denver after learning a heartbreaking truth: Many children in our community arrive at school on Mondays hungry, having gone without enough food over the weekend. Bob felt compelled to act after hearing a school principal describe the reality so many families face, and Food for Thought Denver was born out of this deep concern and a desire to make a difference.

Our mission is simple but profound: to ensure no Denver-area child goes hungry over the weekend. Every Friday during the school year, volunteers—including individuals, students, corporate teams, and friends—come together at two packing sites to fill PowerSacks, each with enough food to feed a family of four through the weekend. These PowerSacks are then distributed to every child in our 75 participating schools so that each student returns to school nourished and ready to learn.

At Food for Thought Denver, we are committed to making the most of every gift we receive. We remain a 100% volunteer-run organization, with no paid staff, and our generous Board of Directors and supporters cover all of our operating expenses. This unique structure allows every dollar donated to go directly to putting food on the tables of the children and families we serve.

“We believe that when a community comes together around the simple but essential goal of ensuring no child is hungry, lasting change is possible. Volunteers, donors, and supporters alike are united in the hope that together, we can end weekend hunger for all children in the Denver metro area.”
