Butterfly Pavilion

A staggering 97% of Earth’s animal species are invertebrates, with no backbone they form the foundation of our planet’s ecosystems. Their survival is intrinsically tied to our own. Invertebrates are everywhere; they live where people live. This aspect makes conservation not an abstract, pie-in-the-sky notion, but something that is active, community building and hopeful for everyone in all parts of the planet. Minimal efforts to protect invertebrates can yield exponential and upwardly cascading results.

Invertebrates are the invisible infrastructure for our earth’s wellbeing. Without caring for invertebrates, we will quickly make our own world uninhabitable.

Yet, with declines in global invertebrate populations, and the risk of further extinction related to global warming, Butterfly Pavilion’s mission of protecting invertebrates is even more critical today. At Butterfly Pavilion, we transform the way people think about invertebrates. These small but mighty animals that surround us are so much more than people think. They are everywhere because everything depends on them.

Since 1995, Butterfly Pavilion has been an integral part of the Colorado community and welcomed more than five million visitors from around the globe. As the first Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited, stand-alone, non-profit invertebrate zoo in the world, our responsibility is clear: to lead the way in invertebrate research, education, and conservation. We exist to foster an appreciation of invertebrates by educating the public about the need to protect and care for threatened habitats globally, while conducting research for solutions in invertebrate conservation.

We achieve this by delivering distinctive, hands-on educational experiences within our exhibits and programs, pioneering new research that sets national standards for zoos, and innovating solutions for invertebrate species and habitat conservation worldwide. Beyond Colorado, our global invertebrate conservation efforts reach from Tanzania and Sumatra to Mongolia and Turks and Caicos.

As the year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on our strides and the impact of these remarkable creatures on our world. We’re more determined than ever to continue our vital work, which goes beyond our doors. We’re committed to protecting biodiversity, advancing science, and inspiring future generations to safeguard our environment. We can’t do it alone – your generosity drives our mission. Join us this end-of-year season to protect the web of life.

Donate today to protect and conserve invertebrates with Butterfly Pavilion. You too can make a world of difference.
