For Jeannie, it all started with a doctor’s visit…Jeannie was active, loved her job, and enjoyed time out with her friends. Then the symptoms started. She was tired all the time and had tingling in her arms and legs. Friends encouraged her to see a doctor. After a number of tests, the news came back: Jeannie had Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
When she was first diagnosed with MS at 30 years old, Jeannie was devastated. She worried what this would mean for her life. Would she be able to work? To hike? To do the things she loved?
Initially, Jeannie was able to continue to do all of those things. With the help of her doctors, she continued to be independent, able to do everything she had always done. But as her MS progressed, some of these things started to slip away. Eventually, she had trouble walking, and she suffered from pain and fatigue. Simply bending over to pick up a dropped spoon or phone became a nearly impossible task. She felt hopeless… trapped… and alone.
And that’s when Jeannie met Cooper. Cooper is an assistance dog, trained by Canine Partners of the Rockies (CaPR). Specially trained to provide support and companionship to a mobility-impaired owner, Cooper came into Jeannie’s life at just the right time.

At Canine Partners of the Rockies, our mission is simple: we help our fellow Coloradans find freedom and independence that changes their lives for the better. We do this by training and partnering assistance dogs with those who need their help.
CaPR receives no state or federal funding and relies on the generosity of individuals like you to connect more skilled service dogs with people who need their support.
